Aloha! I'm Melissa! ​I was born and raised on Maui and have been painting for over 20 years. 

I enjoy painting landscapes, tropical scenery, wildlife & people while challenging myself to bring out what makes my subjects truly unique.  Whether it's using vibrant colors, expressive brushwork, innovative compositions, my focus is bringing out the extraordinary from what many might consider "ordinary".

   

For me, art classes began at age 11 when I took private lessons from renowned artist, Ceclia Bahena.  It was from Cecilia that she first learned traditional techniques in oil and watercolors, pastel, pen & ink. My education & passion for the arts continued onward to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Art in 2004 with an emphasis in drawing & painting. 

 

Today, I continue to create and be inspired by the unique beauty of my island home  and now primarily work in acrylic due to its convenient and versatile nature.
